It's Friday Again!

Hello Folks---
Another week has passed us by.  Luckily I had off yesterday in honor of Veteran's Day and was able to get some quality study time in before attending the last Becker review course for Financial.  My exam is in 9 days!! Ahhh, I don't know how to react at this point, I am just praying I get through it and do not have to face everything all over again.  How is your studying coming along?  What areas are you struggling with?  I think at this point my main concerns are learning the governmental and not for profit areas of accounting.  Then I have to go back and review EVERYTHING! Since the material so quickly and easily escapes my brain when not looking at it for a day or two!  Give me some feed back ... have you taken the exam? How do feel about it? Are you about to take it?  What are your last minute cram tactics?  I can use anything!  Have a good weekend all! GOOOO COWBOYS! I will be cheering them on at the new Meadowlands Stadium this Sunday :)

T G I F ----- Sort of ??

Hello all my nonexistent followers!

16 days and counting until I sit for FAR, the second time around.  Am I feeling confident? Not quite.  Am I feeling totally lost?  Not quite.  I have good days and bad, times when I think I will be okay and times when I fear my mind will go blank.  Last night we wrapped up our 7th session with Becker and have our last two this upcoming week.  The only areas we have yet to delve into are Governmental Accounting and Not-for-Profit Accounting, woo hoo! Two of my fav's.  Anyways, I plan to stop at Starbucks on the ride home from work, get a latte, go home and change into some sweats, and hit the books!  Yes, depressing, my Friday night is actually being reduced to studying.  We will see how long my concentration can be kept.  Tomorrow is a new day, my only plans--hit the gym, study, and study.  G - S - S (GTL for all you Jersey Shore freaks!)  Have a great weekend and pray for the Dallas Cowboys to bring home their 2nd win of the season this Sunday!

Like Ryan Seacrest, I'M OUT!

Good Afternoon Study Buddies!

I hope everyone is having a great (chilly) Friday afternoon!  I am glad 5 o'clock will be here in just under 2 hours!  I cannot wait to get to they gym tonight, the first time this week!

Tuesday and Thursday for 4 hours each, I attended Becker live lecture courses.  We went over F2 and F3 this week, covering some interesting and complex topics.  F2 was based on revenue recognition issues and criteria, while F3 focused on equity investments and business consolidations.  I really enjoyed last nights Professor, who also teaches at Brooklyn College.  He explains things well, welcomes questions and comments, and really has a knack for teaching.  I plan to put a few hours aside tomorrow and Sunday to review F2 & F3 as well familiarize myself with F4, which will be the topic covered in next week's first class.  What are your study plans for this weekend?

Upon completion of last nights class, our professor told us to "Have a bad weekend".  By this he said he meant to study, and don't have "fun". Ha Ha.  I know what he means!  Another teacher once said, "If you're not home studying on a Friday night, good luck".  Well, I can say that I won't be home studying tonight... (I will be watching the Yankees stay alive in hopes of the World Series) but SHHH.  Our secret.

On a lighter note... I am also big NFL fan, and cannot wait for the Monday night game.  I will (reluctantly) reveal that I am a Dallas Cowboys fan. Mostly everyone I know is a Giants fan, so this will be one intense game, ending in major bragging rights--at least until the two teams meet again in a few short weeks.

Okay, okay, enough of my personal life.  I came across this quote today and I really feel that students and anyone in general can read this and relate to it:

"Adversity is another way to measure
the greatness of individuals. I never had
a crisis that didn't make me stronger."
- Lou Holtz

After reading this, think about the CPA exam.   Some answers you may find with ease, while others you may struggle.  This is part of a winning battle.  Not much is "easy" in life.  Without risk, there is no reward.  So forgo that extra night out with friends, or vegging out watching your favorite show.  Pass the CPA now and you will enjoy much success and many luxuries in the years to come.  Such thinking helps get me through the day when I dread studying and feel as though passing is out of reach.

Have a great fall weekend and remember, if the CPA exam was a piece of cake, there would be many overweight CPA's out there!

Welcome!

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

This is my first official blog and I hope it turns out to be a successful one.  My name is Stephanie, I am in my early twenties and have begun the road to becoming a certified public accountant.  I graduated from Rutgers University Business School a little over a year ago, and am currently working full-time as an account.  I recently purchased the Becker review program and have been attending live classes to prepare for the CPA exam.  I am scheduled to take Financial Accounting & Reporting in late November.  I had previously taken FAR last May with little studying and/or review of the material and unsurprisingly, did not pass.  I am now hoping to buckle down with my studies and get through what is arguably the most difficult section of the CPA exam, due to the depth and breath of knowledge tested.  I often come across questions or topics in which I understand well, and others which I cannot grasp my head around.  I know many of us have limited resources in terms of people who can help us to understand areas we may have difficulty with.  This blog is in part designed to discuss such areas and attempt an understanding of them.  I myself will post questions or issues and look for feedback on them, and I hope that others too post questions and comments in which I can actively participate in an educated discussion.  I hope this site works out well for all of those involved, and most of all, I wish you (and myself) the smoothest road to successful completion of all 4 parts of the CPA exam!
